Aalto Digital Way of Working
Digital workplace is a combination of technology and tools and the way people use and utilize them in collaboration both remotely and on the campus. It combines the themes and technologies described in other aitivision.fi areas. The digital workplace is all about the employees’ ability to do their job by collaborating, communicating and connecting with others.
#timetolevelup is a campaign to promote, develop and share Aalto digital way of working. We aim to identify the needs of different actors in the University and provide them suitable collaboration and co-working platforms and methods.
What We Provide:

- A sense of togetherness and an Aalto-mindset in the digital world
- Identifying the best practices and developing new practices that combine the best of digital and physical worlds
We Make This Happen by:
- Offering a platform for Aalto staff to share, enhance and create new ways and best practices
- Offering information and instructions about the digital tools and technologies available
- Sharing news, developments and good practices

I’m not sure about where to post things about IT classrooms, but perhaps here?
There have been plans to remove IT classrooms or replace them by classrooms with only (largish) screens. This is related to the idea of running the programs over VDI through students’ laptops. This sounds like it may indeed make sense, but:
1. This needs to be piloted properly first.
2. The performance of VDI for heavier applications such as 3D design needs to be validated. I have heard of experiences where the performance has not been sufficient.
3. Full IT classrooms need to be provided as long as there is need for them. Practical pedagogical solutions are a bit different for full IT classrooms and VDI based solutions.
This needs to be done in close coordination with schools to ensure the above issues are properly matched with the user needs. I suggest inviting at least the following into the discussion (the involvement of the different parties varies between schools but this should be ensure sufficient participation):
– Technical services
– Premises responsibles (tilavastaavat; largely overlapping with technical services)
– Learning services
– Teaching vice-deans
